“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that's the stuff life is made of.”

Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanac

On this day in 1706, Benjamin Franklin was born. His contributions to America are extensive and enduring. Over his 84-year life, the Founding Father built a legacy as a printer, author, inventor, politician, diplomat and even the nation’s first Postmaster General.

Franklin attended school for just two years before dropping out to work in his father’s candle shop. All other education he received came from a lifetime of reading on his own and engaging in conversation with others.
