Mellody Hobson, co-founder (with her husband, filmmaker George Lucas) of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, on what she hopes the museum will inspire visitors to ask: “Why do people do what they do? Why do they believe what they believe? Why do we have the myths that we have?”
The museum, opening Tuesday in Los Angeles, is the culmination of a 17-year effort to create a home for narrative art and visual storytelling — including 35 galleries with over 40,000 pieces. It also features a research library, two theatres, a public park, and a restaurant.
Even the building itself is a work of imagination, as expressed by architect Ma Yansong: “We want to make architecture that makes people curious.”
